The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. — Psalm 23:1

Our Mission

Sacraments for Seniors is a association of Catholics in the Archdiocese of St. Paul & Minneapolis.
In solidarity, through awareness, education and advocacy we help empower families, care facilities, and parishes on how to advocate for seniors to receive the Sacraments in their final years of life.

Advocacy

We advocate for residents who
can no longer attend parish life on their own.

We help them receive the Anointing of the Sick, the Holy Eucharist, and Reconciliation through regular priest visits and parish connections.

Learn About the Sacraments

How It Began

It started with a simple question:
Who is bringing the sacraments to our seniors?
As lay Catholics began visiting loved ones in nursing homes, they discovered that many residents no longer had access to the Sacraments. Some facilities didn’t have priests on call. Others weren’t sure how to contact a local parish.
What began as a few concerned phone calls grew into a network of advocates determined to make sure no one is forgotten. Through persistent outreach and prayer, Sacraments for Seniors began bridging the gap between parishes, clergy, and care facilities.

Why It Matters

Many nursing homes have residents who quietly long for Confession, Holy Communion, or the comfort of a priest. Yet too often, those needs go unmet because no one knows who to call or believes they can help.

Reach out

to local parishes on behalf of loved ones

Contact

the state ombudsman if residents’ spiritual rights are not being met

Coordinate

with care facilities to allow priest visits
When we act in faith, seniors receive not only the Sacraments—but the peace and dignity they deserve as children of God.

Stories of Grace

Every visit tells a story of God’s mercy.
A nursing home resident who hadn’t received Communion in years, finally reunited with her parish priest. A chaplain who recognized a Catholic resident’s final need for the Anointing of the Sick and ensured she received it before passing into eternal life. A volunteer who reminded a facility that “Service led by residents” cannot replace the Sacrifice of the Mass itself.
Each act of advocacy restores what should never be lost: the Church’s presence among her oldest members.
...My son, be steadfast in honoring you father...Even if his mind fails, be considerate of him...
- Sirach 3 1:16

Our Patron Saints

St. Carlo Acutis

St. Carlo Acutis, patron saint of the Internet, promoted a deep love of the Eucharist and used his gifts to bring others closer to Christ. We trust his intercession to help us reach every Catholic living in long-term care with the healing grace of the Sacraments.
The more often we receive the Eucharist, the more we become like Jesus and the more we get a foretaste of heaven.
Like St. Carlo, we believe the Eucharist is the highway to heaven for all of our seniors and for the whole world.

St. Jeanne Jugan

St. Jeanne Jugan, patron saint of the poor elderly and foundress of the Little Sisters of the Poor, inspires our mission to serve seniors with tenderness and dignity.
Love God very much, so that you can look after the aged well, for it is Jesus whom you care for in them.
Following her example, we seek to love the face of Christ in every elder, ensuring they can continue to receive His life-giving Eucharist in their final years.

Mother Teresa

Foundress of The Missionaries of Charity
If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.
Being unwanted, unloved, uncared for, forgotten by everybody, I think that is a much greater hunger, a much greater poverty than the person who has nothing to eat.
We can do no great things, only small things with great love.
